Oscar Emlyn Mavropoulos

Kia Ora! I'm Oscar, a New Zealand, Māori Industrial Designer with a hands-on approach and a background in product, spacial, graphic, and furniture design. I studied at Massey University and have worked across freelance projects and within both small and large design firms locally and internationally. My practice is grounded in utility—if something doesn’t function well, it doesn’t deserve to exist, but I also believe playfulness through form can elevate design. I love making things and have experience in woodworking, ceramics, and sheet metal fabrication. Like most product designers, I find joy in improving lives, but for me, that comes from enriching the experience of users. Experiences help us grow, learn, and adapt - and while convenience has its place, I believe friction can lead to deeper connections with objects, spaces, and people. Through my work, I aim to create designs that are both thoughtful and surprising—refined in execution, but always a bit wacky.
